I’m not popular

My very first grade student came home from school on her first day. I asked her which of her friends were in her class. She called 2. I asked if she had fun with the other pals at recess. She said no. I asked particularly about one pal she had had fun with in kindergarten. “No, she’s with the popular kids.” I did a double-take and asked her to repeat herself. I didn’t hear her incorrect. She was discussing popular kids.

In very first grade. I provided a normal mommy response that was something like “There is no such thing as popular and not popular.

What are we teaching or not teaching our children? Why do eight year old women get their hair streaked?

I doubt we think “Oh, I can’t wait until they get a job and after that come home to clean their house everyday.” I think it is rather the opposite. We yearning wish for the days when our greatest tension was whether little Bobby believes we are cute or not.

I want that parents would pay more attention to the impact we have on our children. Teach them to be kids and have enjoyable and deal with their own little world.

Please do not push them down that road too soon. And please do not let your 7 year old child act snobby so she can be popular. Just teach her to be good and say hello to kids she doesn’t know.

I asked particularly about one buddy she had played with in kindergarten. She was talking about popular kids.

I offered a common mom response that was something like “There is no such thing as popular and not popular. We yearning dream for the days when our greatest tension was whether little Bobby believes we are adorable or not.

And please do not let your seven year old daughter act snobby so she can be popular.
